Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat was tasked to reports of a yacht taking on water off the West coast of the Isle of Wight yesterday afternoon (Saturday).
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat at around 15:00 after being told that a 52ft yacht, with 4 persons onboard, was in difficulty and taking on water in the Western Solent.
The volunteer Yarmouth crew quickly located the casualty vessel, which had managed to safely secure their anchor just south of Totland Bay.
3 of the adults on board the large yacht were transferred to Yarmouth’s Servern-class Lifeboat using appropriate safety measures under the RNLI COVID-19 guidance. The yacht’s skipper remained on board the stricken vessel, along with lifeboat crew that were attempting to clear the water ingress using a slavage pump.
Having made the boat safe, an alongside tow was established and the yacht was carefully monitored as it was towed to the safety of Lymington by Yarmouth RNLI.
On arrival at the mainland port, the casulaty vessel was escorted into Berthon Boatyard ready for assessment of the damage and the potential cause of the water ingress.
Yarmouth Lifeboat returned to her berth at Yarmouth Harbour and was ready for service at 19:05.

South of Totland? Am I being thick or isn’t that on dry land?
Depends how far south you go, but point taken.
