Days of travel disruption in the East Wight has been eased this evening (Thursday) as Yarbridge reopens to traffic, but temporary traffic lights are still in operation. It was on Monday night that SGN activated an emergency closure of the busy crossroads junction in Brading due to a gas leak. Throughout this week motorists have had to divert via Bembridge when travelling between Ryde and Sandown, with further closures at Ashey Road adding a layer of complexity to the local diversions. It has been confirmed that the junction at Yarbridge has re-opened to through traffic, although access to Hornsey Rise (onto The Downs) remains closed as engineers continue to work to fix the gas leak. Temporary traffic lights are still in place at the junctions of New Road, Morton Common and Marshcombe Shute, so motorists should still expect some element of delay. Hornsey Rise will remain closed until further notice, with no time frame given as to how long this section of road will remain closed for. It is the 3rd time in recent years that SGN has had to repair gas pipes on the crossroads, but this latest issue hits the hardest as the Summer holidays get underway.
