A woman has been winched to safety by the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter tonight (Thursday) after a 5-hour long search to find her at the most Southerly tip of the Isle of Wight.
The incident began at around 15:00 this afternoon when HM Coastguard was alerted to an individual in difficulty, having been cut off by the tide, in the vicinity of St Catherine’s Point.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were mobilised to conduct a search of the Niton Undercliff area for the casualty, and to provide any assistance she may require.
However, it soon became clear that the search was not proving fruitful leading to the incident being scaled up.
After several hours of searching, the casualty was eventually located further East at Puckaster Cove, near to Castlehaven.
Due to her location and the length of time she had been in her predicament, the assistance of Coastguard Rescue 175 from Lee-on-Solent was called for to assist Coastguard Rescue Officers on the ground.
Thankfully, the woman has escaped any injury and has now been landed at Niton Football Ground, to be reunited with her family.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

Whos the sad idiot pressing all the red thumbs down on all these?
They were100%correct all of them! That woman was a total fool and timewaster.
Well done coastguards and all involved. These people give up their time to help others, either voluntarily or on basic wage.
We thank you all.
And I hope the lady involved was ok, I doubt she did it on purpose.
People need to get tide info before they venture to any beach area on the Island, common sense is obviously non existent with some.
