Police investigating a collision between a motorcycle and a tractor trailer in Adgestone, which left a man in his 40s with serious leg injuries, are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Emergency services were called at 19:02 on Tuesday 20th August to reports of a collision on Lower Road, not far from the junction with Upper Road. The collision involved a Yamaha R125 motorbike and a tractor, which was towing a trailer, as first reported by Island Echo. The rider of the motorbike, a local man in his 40s, was flown directly to Southampton General Hospital by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance with serious injuries. Island Echo understands the tractor was reversing the trailer out of a field entrance when the collision occurred. Were you in the area at the time of the incident? Did you witness the collision or were you driving by with a dashcam fitted to your vehicle? If you have any information then you are asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 44240358148.

Too many farmers and the like ignoring the rules with trailers. On Sunday TWO 10W was pulling a trailer wider than their vehicle and no towing mirrors, no number plate on the trailer, reversing lights stuck on and no other lights working.
“You must have an adequate view of the road behind you. Fit suitable towing mirrors if your trailer or caravan is wider than the rear of your car. You can be fined up to £1,000 and get 3 penalty points for towing without proper towing mirrors.”
“The trailer registration plate must be fixed to the rear of the trailer in a position that is as far as reasonably practicable from the position of the towing vehicle registration plate.”
Do all those rules apply to tractor+trailer?
“The trailer registration plate must be fixed to the rear of the trailer in a position that is as far as reasonably practicable from the position of the towing vehicle registration plate.”
WTF has that got to do with, and how would it have made even the slightest difference in this case ???
some poor chap has serious injuries,..and also the tractor driver is probably quite traumatised for having been involved and possibly caused it…
& all you can do do is quote some irrelavent regulation regarding number plates….
perhaps you think the biker didn’t see the trailer because the number plate was in the wrong place .???
There’s some people on here that simply post anything, however irrelevant.
The op is well known for spouting nonsense.
The most useful feature that the Echo could add? An ignore button.
It’s not a field it’s a storage yard.. if anything he was dropping back to open the gates to get in..which has plenty of room to turn and come back out..
Whatever.. he had his ass out…and the poor guy wouldn’t have seen that. Sorry..I think it’s down to the tractor driver,.
You should never reverse anything that size out onto a road with out some one guiding you.
Dash cam ?over a week later, mine stores about 3/5 hrs then overrights.
Do do do and another one bites the dust another one down another one down another one bites the dust. One less speed merchant to worry about on island roads.
Adgestone, dash cam? Lucky if only a dog and a sheep travel down that road in a day.
All i can say is that if both vehicles were being cautious and driving slowly (as that road necessitates) any injuries would be relatively mild.
I’ll agree with the cautious bit for both parties, but I’ve never seen a tractor with a trailer reversing at speed?
I saw an idiot on a motorbike this evening speeding along
Yaverland Road, overtaking many vehicles erratically.
Looked like The Numpty had a skull mask on his face.
Until the island place speed deterrents and speed Camera’s
Speeding will NEVER stop on the island.
Khan and Drakeford made London and Wales
Roads safe for everyone.
Exactly. Having a man with a red flag walking in front of motorised traffic would help to bring down speeds and thereby reduce road accidents, while increasing employment. It’s a no brainer really.
High quality speed / anpr Camera’s will stop selfish inconsiderate
B’stards speeding.
