A yellow wind warning has been issued for the Isle of Wight with gusts of some 60mph expected on Saturday, as well as some heavy showers.
IW Met Service has said that a spell of unseasonably strong winds will affect the Island through Saturday afternoon with west to southwesterly wind gusts of 45-50mph quite widely, perhaps as strong as 55-60mph around exposed coasts and hills.
Heavy showers may also accompany the wind, especially during Saturday morning.
Motorists are warned that driving conditions will be hazardous, with leaves and twigs covering the roads in place and the rain leading to poor visibility and surface water in places. There is also the possibility of disruption to cross-Solent travel.
Large waves around the Island’s western and southern coasts will be an additional hazard.
It’s bad news for those attending this year’s IW Pride, as the parade and other celebrations will be lashed by the strong winds. Disruption to other outdoor events, like Warrior Festival, is also expected, especially where they are market stalls and stands.
Islanders are being told to ensure loose garden furniture is secured.
The warning is in force from 10:00 on Saturday until 03:00 on Sunday morning.
