The last of Wightlink’s ships has returned home after her annual refit, completing a 6-month programme of maintenance.
The ferry company’s 8-strong fleet is now ready for Easter and a busy Summer taking holidaymakers across the Solent and supplying the Isle of Wight.
Wight Sun set sail from the A&P shipyard in Falmouth in bright sunshine for her home port of Lymington on Monday (27th March). Her journey along the south coast took 15 hours.
Keith Greenfield, Chief Executive of Wightlink, has said:
“Every ship and FastCat in our fleet has spent time in dry dock this season and they look magnificent.
“Our engineers and crew take great pride in keeping their vessels in good order, ready to welcome customers.”
1 of the main tasks for Wight Sun’s refit crew of 7 this year was to remove, refurbish and replace 1 of the ship’s propellers. They also used more than 700 litres of paint and anti-fouling for the hull to keep her looking smart throughout the summer.

Nice marketing ploy, but you are fooling no one .. one essential crew member missing and the whole service falls over, and at the travellers expense
why use a over priced company
At £300 return should be gold leaf !!!
around £300 covers 5 return trips any time and any day on the multilink pass, no complaints about that from me..
Ferry Fares are a joke.
£300.00 for a return fare works out about £25.00 a mile
Most expensive ferry crossing in the world.
Cheaper to Holiday elsewhere.
How wonderful it will be to see these brightly coloured sailing wonders all parked up an ready for the trials and tribulations of a busy season.. The fact that they will probably spend more time moored up because a crew member has got a cold seems to escape all ferry companies! You can paint a dollop of dog dirt any colour you want, but it’s still a dollop of dog dirt! Perhaps one less coat of anti-foul and one extra crew member might have been the way to go.. but you know best don’t you?
