Cross-Solent operator Wightlink has cancelled a number of sailings on its Fishbourne-Portsmouth car ferry service today (Tuesday).
With ‘St Clare’ away in France for annual maintenance, the service is reliant on a depleted fleet. Wightlink says that the cancellations are due to adverse weather and reduced power on Wight Light.
A revised timetable is already being run between 21st January – 2nd February to accommodate St Clare’s journey across the Channel. Details can be obtained at https://www.wightlink.co.uk/go/service-status/.
Customers travelling by vehicle are reminded to check in at least 30 minutes but no more than one hour before the scheduled sailing time and foot passengers at least 15 minutes before the scheduled sailing time.

With ‘St Clare’ away in France for annual maintenance, FRANCE! Really
This is Wight link we’re talking about!!
Shitelink should have it fixed in uk rather than Eu !
What’s wrong with British maintenance?? No wonder we are constantly being ripped off by WIGHT-LINK…
Next, Wight Link will be nicking fish from our waters and dumping the fish in some French fish market
After that’s done the French will sell it back to the British delivered by Wight-Link,
Tunnel anyone! Ha.
NO TUNNEL.
Have it repaired/maintained in UK (England)
How does this company survive…..
It ain’t because they offer a good service.
Because we’re all held to random! We don’t have much choice let’s face it
Ransom
What adverse weather oh yes too much sun today captain forgot his sunglasses this is getting beyond a joke FIXED LINK NEEDED !!!
There is always relocation to the mainland … bye
NO FIXED LINK.
This is getting a flipping joke now, it might be best to build the tunnel, as keep cancelling the ferries is becoming a problem and its not fare to pay a high price for the ferry not say times have been cancelled, its about time you sorted this out
I was booked on the 12.15 that got cancelled they booked us on the 13.15 then that got cancelled. They rebooked us on the Lymington ferry —- really we were going to Lee on Solent !!!!!
Ended up going by hover and then bus. Really bad service Wightlink
Well said clare
Love how everyone is whinging that it’s being fixed in France, the real issue is that there obviously wasn’t anywhere in the green Isles able to undertake the work or its ludicrously expensive. Don’t connect dots if you don’t know.
It’s been sat in pompey terminal for 2 weekslol
Absolute rubbish
Red funnel have their maintenance done at Falmouth and have done for years.
The real issue is that people tally service against cost and the two are at other ends of the scale.
I feel certain that companies in the uk could do the work matching the quotes from overseas.
The last 14 months has been terrible for the operator due to repeated engine failures on the smaller ferries and this had led to outsourcing to the continent.
Your living in cloud cookoo land, you must be a remainiac because your another person that thinks Britain isn’t good enough.
Think British, be British and talk your country up, not down.
We’ve had three years of remoaners, so stop your negativity….
You mean ‘you’re living in cloud cuckoo land’ and ‘you’re another person…’
Perhaps the ‘floating bridge’ put them off having it repaired here.
St Claire been laid up in pompey for 2weeks
This constant turmoil for a multitude of reasons is totally unacceptable especially to people who travel back and forth to the mainland on a regular basis. Red Funnel, Wightlink and Hovertravel hold the people of the Island to ransom, why because they can. Islanders have no choice, (Swimming is an option, but not advisable).
A tunnel is an option, I would like to remind people Portsmouth is an island by a few hundred meters, not a few miles, and every body classes Portsmouth as the mainland, that is what the Island would eventually in time turn into, JUST ANOTHER PART OF THE MAINLAND, should a fix link ever be made.
If you were born on the Island you know no different to Island life, if you moved to the Island it is most likely by choice because you like the difference.
If you want to live on the Island but work on the mainland or simply travel to the mainland for other reasons, you/we need to start a concerted campaign of determination to get these ferry companies/hover to start to respect Islanders and provide a decent service.
The Island voted in an MP with a considerable majority, start with him, he is a member of government, so start to pressure him. Wightlink and the rest won’t change a thing on their own because no matter what they do you have to use them day in day out, as such they have a guaranteed income.
If you really want a fixed link you just as well move to the mainland because that’s what the Island will become. THE MAINLAND, just like Portsmouth.
Kev, I agree we need to write to our MP he needs to understand our views and frustrations, but having done so on many occasions, I have given up on Bob, I found that when I drilled down on what he replied back was spin and waffle to try and placate without taking any type of action, at least with Andrew Turner and Barry Field they would move things up to the relevant minister or sign post further avenues to go down, but Bob does not appear to be a good constituency MP. It is a great shame we do not have likes of Steve Ross looking after us.
Who are these people who voted for Mr.Seely? Could they just be retired tories who have no need to go back and forth and to hell with everyone else? Beats me but the Island is now considered a safe seat
JDF, I understand your dissatisfaction, a concerted effort is required, history informs us individuals seldom succeed, an organised agreement needs to be forthcoming, petitions need to be signed by hundreds/thousands of concerned individuals and organisations, perhaps ‘ islandecho ‘ could start a petition online, it’s no good people acting as individuals
as this will not succeed.
The echo continually report on the problems caused by the ferries/hover and people continually state their dissatisfaction, put the two together in a meaningful way. Make this MP listen.
Perhaps we need a concerted effort to move wightlink headquarters to the island so 5he6 hav3 at least some knowledge of the inconvenience it causes…
This is so silly. I’d actually appeciate just an honest timetable that says, ‘look, we’re running less as we’re not investnig in the ships and want larger pay outs for our investors, so this is the timetable. Please plan your trips accordingly.”
Just be honest.
What I love is the Tory contingent who think that we can’t nationalise, so these companies make millions in profit, and do so by ripping you off, an din return you get a poor, unreliable service. Imagine if it wasn’t run for profit, but for service, so the money made went into the business rather than out of it. AMAZING idea, right!
Mental.
