Extremely dense patches of fog are expected to develop across the Isle of Wight overnight, leading to a yellow weather warning being issued by IW Met Service.
Localised fog patches will roll in late tonight and into the early hours of tomorrow in low lying rural locations on the Island. Then, as the night goes on, these patches will gradually become more widespread.
Although some places will remain fog free, other places are likely to see some extremely dense patches locally.
Forecasters are warning of potential travel disruption which may include cross-Solent travel.
The fog will gradually disperse and clear after sunrise.
The yellow weather warning is in force from 01:00 until 10:00 on Monday 26th August 2019.
UPDATE MONDAY @ 08:50 – Dense areas of fog in some parts of the Island, as well as through the Solent, will persist for a little longer than originally expected.
The ‘land fog’ should be mostly dispersed by 11:00 this morning although it now seems possible that windward coasts – especially more western parts – may see the fog persist through into the afternoon. This may also include the western Solent at times.
The fog risk will then increase generally once again as we move into this evening with reduced visibility becoming more widespread for a time until 06:00 tomorrow morning.
The yellow weather warning is now in force until 06:00 on Tuesday 27th August.
