A yellow weather warning for strong winds of up to 70mph has been issued for this coming Friday, with heavy rain likely to hit the Isle of Wight also.
Forecasters at IW Met Service say that a late season winter storm system will quickly move in from the west during the early hours of Friday morning, bringing with it some severe gales, accompanied by spells of rather heavy rain.
Southwesterly winds are expected to gust up to 60mph widely across the Island, with perhaps a few exposed locations seeing gusts as high as 70mph.
Exceptionally large waves affecting the Island’s western and southern coast are expected – perhaps as high as 25ft – with beaches in these areas highly susceptible to very large ‘sneaker waves’. The weather conditions will be dangerous for small watercraft.
Islanders should be aware of the risk of falling tree debris such as twigs and branches as well as possible delays and cancellations to public transport, especially cross-Solent travel.
There is a risk of damage to garden furniture too.
The warning is in force from 00:01 until 16:00 on Friday (31st March).

Good old March in like a lamb out like a lion as the saying goes. Pray there is not too much damage, people have been through enough in the last 5 years.
so its going to be a bit wet and windy no need to go out panic buying toilet rolls ect
But make sure you have plenty of waterproof and windproof clothing – and I mean, plenty.
So we are going to get a storm, its not the first one & it wont be the last !!!
Not More Rain… We’d better not have another hose pipe ban this year.
Another excuse for Southern water to empty sewage into our rivers and seas…
Sneaker waves….???
A wave that is much larger than those around it. Like a freak wave
