Islanders are invited to St Mary’s Hospital next week for a special Armed Forces celebration event featuring 100-year-old WWII veteran Alec Penstone.
A special event celebrating the work being done for the armed forces community is set to take place at St Mary’s Hospital on Tuesday (17th February) between 11:00 and 14:00.
Among those attending will be Alec Penstone, one of the last remaining Second World War veterans on the Isle of Wight, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday. The event offers a rare opportunity to meet the Island resident and hear first-hand about his extraordinary life and military service.
The celebration will focus on inspiring connection, learning and honouring those who serve, with a range of organisations in attendance.
Visitors will be able to witness Armed Forces Covenant signings, demonstrating continued commitment to supporting military personnel and their families.
Representatives from SSAFA will be on hand to showcase the charity’s ongoing work supporting military families, while attendees can also learn more about Wight Forces, a new Island-based charity dedicated to assisting the armed forces community.
Army Reserves representatives will also be present, offering information on how Islanders can get involved and support the forces through reserve service.
In addition, there will be opportunities to find out more about Veteran Aware accreditation, an initiative recognising businesses and organisations committed to supporting veterans.
Islanders are encouraged to attend, share their thoughts and celebrate the achievements and contributions of the armed forces community.
