Registration for this years Walk the Wight has now opened following the success of last years fundraising efforts, which saw an amazing total of £270,458 raised for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
Staff and volunteers at the Newport-based Hospice are hoping the Island community can once again pull together and this year raise a whopping £300,000 through Walk the Wight.
The ambitious target is £50k more than last year’s silver anniversary target but CEO Nigel Hartley is confident the event will continue to exceed expectations.
Nigel says the depth of feeling for the Hospice from the Island community and beyond shouldn’t be under-estimated:
“Last year we raised over £270k and exceeded our target – I am sure we will see that same level of commitment and drive from everyone taking part this year,” he said. “We want to raise £300k to help ensure our Hospice continues to be fit for purpose not just right now, but for generations to come.
“The Walk is such an integral part of the Island’s annual calendar and we urge everyone to get involved and get behind our Hospice”.
For 2016 competition prizes include a walking break for two courtesy of HF Holidays, a pair of Bestival tickets and even a prize for the ‘top dog’, as well as a free health check for each dog that registers to walk.
In addition, as the Schools Walk the Wight turns 10 years old, there is a prize of a day out at The Needles Landmark Attraction for whichever school team raises the most money. Each registered child also has the chance to design the Schools Walk the Wight certificate. The lucky winner’s artwork will feature on the certificates presented to each child at their SWTW medal assembly.
Registration is free, however if you pay £25 you will receive your walker pack as well as a Walk the Wight T-Shirt. If you pledge to raise at least £100 you will receive your walker pack and a Walk the Wight T-Shirt for free.
You can register to walk by visiting the brand new website www.walkthewight.com or by popping into any one of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice shops from next Friday (29th).
