Drivers in East Cowes are facing further disruption after York Avenue was closed until 28th October, adding to months of ongoing utility works in the area.
The main road into the town has been closed this morning (Wednesday) and will remain closed until the 28th October. The closure is to allow Southern Water to complete essential sewer repairs.
York Avenue will be closed between Adelaide Grove and Connaught Road, with traffic diverting along Adelaide Grove and Victoria Grove in both directions.
There have been traffic lights on both Adelaide Grove and Victoria Grove in the last few months as a major SGN project continues. 3-way lights at the junction with Mayfield Road and Beatrice Avenue, to facilitate those works, were removed earlier this week, ahead of the York Avenue Closure.
Cones have been placed along both roads to reduce the amount of cars parked on road.
Southern Water have been on site on York Avenue for some weeks now with traffic lights in place. Island Echo understands that it had been hoped that the works could have been completed with the road still open, but the issue requires Southern Water to extend the dig site into the middle of the road.
The SGN project is set to continue until December.
