Police rushed to a residential address in Sandown this morning (Thursday) for what has been described as a ‘verbal only’ incident.
At around 09:00, units from across the Island responded to Springfield Mews off Station Avenue.
Initially, 3 Police cars arrived on scene, soon followed by another car and a van – a total of 5 units and anywhere between 5 and 10 officers.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that officers were responding to a verbal-only domestic incident.
No arrests were made by attending officers, who stood down by 10:00.

Thank God we have men and women who join the Police Force so those of us who do not stray from the straight and narrow are potentially safe. Respect and admiration for them ALL!!!!
Shame they don’t send that many out when there’s real crimes being committed!
When drugs you on Linda. You have no idea what transpired. Threats to kill is still only a ‘VERBAL ONLY’ INCIDENT. But yet still very serious.
Wow, that’s the answer then if you get that kind of response for a “verbal” disturbance – when you either being attacked/raped etc etc call & say “I’m being verbally abused”!
Well done to all the police who attended so quickly
the police were called by a passenger to an incident at the ryde ferry terminal recently, where an extremely drunk individual was being abusive, threatening and at the point of turning violent against the ferry staff who quite rightly were not permitting him to travel. Police said that they wouldn’t turn up, because nothing had actually happened. If the drunk hit anyone then they would come.
what kind of scared, pathetic little woke weasels are the police employing.
don’t be surprised if those very restrained and might I say “large male” ferry staff who were dealing with the drunk don’t beat him senseless next time, if they know they won’t get any support from the so called police.
disgusting.
It’s not the officers on the street who make the decision to attend they are deployed by a control room so your comments suggesting they are pathetic woke weasels is unfair…the officers on street may not even know if they are not told
Five units for a “verbal” domestic incident. Bit of shouting no doubt. Headline news on the island… zzz … zzz
Next time someone is being very aggressive to you with threats of violence, let me know, I’ll make sure the police do nothing for you and let the aggressor to continue threating you.
Never going to happen muppet.
You’re that powerful? Can you publish your contact details so I can get you to send the police to come to my place when my door is being kicked in by youngsters? They have already managed to get in to the next door flats main door but police say nobody is harmed & damage done doesn’t merit police attendance. If you could tell your police unit to help us I’d be very happy
4 more units than needed and could of been dealing with other crimes or just present in towns.9 out of 10 times you don’t get any units, just given info of what to do online. So many kids on those electric scooters terrorising people in town centres, you don’t need smoke weed to get High in church Litten, enough in the air.
The reason this is news is because so many headlines are about the police failing to respond to calls about theft/Illegally parked cars,/ etc etc. People need to know the police will respond and this is repeatedly a problem.
Until people feel safe/secure and valued in their own property, on the street or whilst driving, respect for policing will suffer. People in general feel let down, when people fail to act responsibly by committing crime or anti social behaviour, they too need to know a police officer will take action and the courts will give true deterrents, and that’s not at present happening.
Waiting for a stupid comment to come
If you wish to provide one feel free. The stage is yours.
one word,.. “Again?”
I’m sure a copper on a bike would have dealt with it quite adequately.
Of course, I’m forgetting a team of 10 were required to ensure the correct pronouns were used and that they could offer the offender sufficient water, sun cream and counselling.
Didn’t IE recently report that only eight officers are on duty at any one time on the island? This must have been all of them for some angry shouting. Shame that they aren’t so keen to attend actual crimes.
Hampshire roads unit on the island for two days dishing out tickets. Maybe they all fancied joining in the fun too.
My feelings got hurt please send a SWAT team, 12 riot vans and the force helicopter. Pathetic
The police on the island are a joke, they pick and choose what calls they attend, they won’t attend if an offender May cause them an issue, they don’t respond to real crime, a verbal argument is about their level of capability. They are cowards who select their response to easy jobs and arrive on mass incase someone shouts at them.
And how many ‘domestics’ eventually result in death? Quite a lot. The volume of Police sent to the incident would be what was required from what the call handler was told by the person making the Emergrncy call. Anyone involved in a Domestic would be grateful for a high presence turnont. Domestic scenes are not pretty. I’ve been there, witnessed it and come out with the blood of the victims on me. This may have happened to the officers this morning. Many of you would not, and above all, could not do their job. The sights they see are not attractive. Also the reports you read may not give anywhere near a true picture. There may be repporting restrictings so that there is no risk to any further investigations.
The “word ” mightier than the “sword”
What an unnessecary cost, no wonder they keep wanting more money from our
Council Taxes.
In the good old days the local Bobby on the Beat would have sorted these sort of problems out.
Some very dangerous and ‘hurty words’ obviously.
Where are you police when the youths are rampaging round freshwater?
You only turn up to wag a finger at angry residents who dare to hint at ‘ teaching them a valuable life lesson’.
