The Blenheim pub in Ventnor is set to reopen this week after a local hospitality operator stepped in to take on temporary stewardship.
Island Echo previously reported that the Isle of Wight pub had shut its doors amid mounting financial pressures, raising fears it could be lost to the community.
In a positive turn of events, the company behind The Boathouse in Seaview and Sandown Pub & Kitchen has now agreed to run The Blenheim on an interim basis while longer-term plans are explored.
The intervention is intended to safeguard the future of the much-loved pub and maintain its role as a key social hub within the Ventnor community.
Stephen McInerney of IOW Pubs has said:
“We recognise how important The Blenheim is to local residents, not only as a place to meet and drink, but as a social hub at the heart of the community. Stepping in at this stage is about supporting the area, protecting local jobs where possible, and giving the pub the opportunity to continue serving its customers while longer-term plans are considered.”
Independent pubs across the Isle of Wight continue to face significant cost pressures, with many operators struggling to remain viable.
Stephen adds:
“Independent pubs continue to face significant cost pressures across the sector, so we felt it was important to act quickly and responsibly to help safeguard this much-loved venue during a challenging period.
“We look forward to welcoming customers through the doors and working with the local community to keep The Blenheim thriving in the days ahead.”

Pretty sure the resent owner and staff had been working towards building the business. The building needs a substantial programme of works. The mounting pressure of these works being required and the costs involved, it would seem easier to remove the existing team and staff as money was being made.
They were diplomatic by saying they were closing due to costs, as that would make sense in current climates. Although not the truth. A gentlemen Till the end. Well done TC and the manager, along with the team, they were building something over time!
They will need a lot of luck to keep open as long as the last owner just has……..Feel a waste of money coming for someone and be shut before the world cup which will be a shame.
When Reeves as finished, there will not be any pubs.
Dear Mr Toogood, I suggest doing your fact checking before you write an article!
This was nothing less than a hostile takeover after the previous landlord and his Team made a success of the Blenheim. If the Brewery was so motivated in maintaining the sense of community why was it left unoccupied for 8 months (prior to the previous landlord stepping in?)
This is a very common story unfortunately of a cooperation taking over from an individual when things are successful.
Shame on their work ethic and pushing this false narrative!
Hopefully the community can see past the lies and support only worthwhile ventures
