A high-scoring Southern Premier League Division 1 contest at Steephill between Ventnor and Hambledon on Saturday saw the visitors win by 3 wickets with 2 overs to spare.
An opening partnership of 125 between Dineth Thimodya with a fluent 72 and young Josh Carpenter with a Ventnor best 43 gave the hosts an excellent base, built on by Hugh Calloway with six fours and a six in a 41 ball 45, Will Mew (28) and Dan Cox (27). With Charlie Calloway adding a quick fire 23 not out, a total of 270-7 was posted from 50 overs.
Recovering from 151-5, the visitors’ ultimately successful run chase was led by Henry Glanfield with a fine 94, despite the efforts of off-spin duo Thimodya (2-31) and Cox (2-53).

Top of the table Havant are the visitors to Steephill on Saturday (28th June). The match starts at 12:30. On Sunday, the 1st team visit St Cross Symondians in the T20 Cup and will also field a side in the Isle of Wight Cricket Board Sixes at Newclose.

VENTNOR 2NDS VANQUISH RYDE IN LOCAL DERBY
Ventnor’s 2nd team sit top of Hampshire League Division 2B after an excellent 7 wicket win over Ryde’s 1st eleven at the John Black Ground on Saturday.
This 6th victory, coupled with previous leaders Portsmouth II dropping points in a tie at Winton, was enough to give Ventnor a slender lead with ten matches to play.
The home team batted first on winning the toss. Ash Goldsmith made 43 from 104 deliveries while Jack Summers (31) and Andy Day (34) also contributed to an all-out score of 196. Kayton Evans claimed his first five wicket haul for Ventnor, while Harrison McQuillan took 3-35.
The visitors began their reply in positive fashion and had reached 94 without loss before Ben Davies departed for a well made 42. Ben Attrill with an excellent 63 and Martin Blackman (27) continued the good work, paving the way for Toby Noyes with a run a ball 36 not out to ease his side to victory with three overs to spare.

Ventnor’s victory leaves them top of Hampshire Division 2B with 6 wins from 8 games and a points average of 21.29. Ryde lie in 4th place with 5 wins and a points average of 16.63.
