Vectis RFC’s U13s and U16s showed resilience on the road this weekend as the rest of the club trained across the Island.
Vectis U13s travelled to Trojans RFC for a challenging match that ended 9–2 to the hosts, though the score line did not reflect Vectis’ work rate or commitment.
A club representative said:
“It was a hard day at the office, but the lads showed incredible grit. This was an unlucky defeat, but a strong shift was put in by every player.”
Points for Vectis came from E Foster and W Lee.
The U16s also faced a stern test away at Basingstoke RFC, falling narrowly 25–19 after a determined fightback.
Vectis suffered an early blow when JP Anderson was forced off injured inside the opening five minutes, with Basingstoke quickly moving 10–0 ahead. The visitors settled into the contest and trailed 15–7 at the break.
A far stronger second half saw tries from James Pushparajah, Finley Brown and Herbie Conway-Hughes, with a late Vectis score disallowed in frustrating fashion as they pressed for a comeback.
Across the Island, the club’s other squads trained at Ventnor, Sandown & Shanklin and Isle of Wight RFC, with a lively atmosphere following England’s statement victory over the All Blacks.
Vectis RFC has also confirmed continued growth in its girls’ section, with 11 players now regularly training within the U12s squad.
