Vectis RFC enjoyed a mixed but encouraging weekend across the age groups, with a dominant Colts win and spirited performances from both the U16s and U15s.
The standout result came from the Colts, who ended their 2025 campaign with a commanding 31–0 home victory over Trojans Falcons.
Victory maintains the Colts’ place at the top of the Hampshire Division 3 Bowl.
Vectis made an assertive start, controlling possession through structured phases, and were rewarded after seven minutes when captain Aaron Robinson crossed from a penalty move to open the scoring. The lead was extended soon after as Hampshire County player George Cowell broke from halfway before offloading to John Waghorn, who finished well. Preston Williams added the conversion for a 12–0 advantage.
Strong defensive work and effective counter-rucking kept Trojans pinned back, and a scrum deep inside the visitors’ 22m allowed number 8 Jack Coates to pick and drive over for the third try. Just before the break, winger Jack Price – making his first appearance of the season while home on Navy leave – intercepted a loose clearance to run in the fourth, converted again by Williams for a 24–0 half-time lead.
Trojans showed renewed determination after the restart and threatened on several occasions, but Vectis’ defence held firm. A crucial moment saw Pat Banks intercept a lineout five metres from his own line to halt a dangerous attack. The scoring was completed in the 70th minute when Lee Crayton broke from inside his own half, beating multiple defenders before finishing in the corner, with Williams converting to seal the 31–0 win.
Away from home, the U16s were involved in a tough contest against Trojans, eventually going down 26–17.
The hosts struck early with three tries in the opening 10 minutes, but Vectis showed resilience to stabilise and pull a try back before half-time.
The second half saw a determined fightback, with Finlay Brown producing an outstanding individual display to score two tries. He was well supported by Mason Miller, whose crunching defensive work kept Vectis in the contest until the final whistle. Despite the defeat, coaches highlighted the effort, attitude and determination on show.
At home, the U15s faced a strong Locksheath side and were beaten 43–21.
Vectis U15s displayed tremendous character after being hit by late withdrawals that left the squad depleted. Several players stepped up to play out of position, battling from first whistle to last.
Vectis crossed the line 3 times and converted all their tries, showing composure and attacking quality, while Locksheath’s numerical advantage eventually told as they ran in seven tries. Match awards went to Josh, named Player of the Match for an excellent all-round performance, and Blake, who received the Coaches’ Player of the Match award for his work rate, attitude and determination.
