Lovers of all things the 1940s, Vectis 40s Vintage, awarded the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary with a cheque for £300 at a torchlit event on Friday evening.
Vectis 40s Vintage is a group of like-minded people who enjoy the 1940s era, including its music and fashion. However, at their special events and meetings the group raise funds for charities and other organisations.
Following a cheque presentation for £200 to the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary in Sandown last year the group has now supported the Sanctuary again to the tune of £300, with 2 other cheques to other beneficiaries set to follow shortly.
With scenes reminiscent of a World War II blackout, The Hare and Hounds Public House was plunged into darkness on Friday evening during the Cheque presentation. An electrical failure in the area caused the outage which was partially eased with emergency lighting on the premises kicking in.
With some semblance of order restored the cheque presentation went ahead in the much-reduced light conditions.
On behalf of Vectis 40s Vintage, Sylvia and Alan Williams presented the cheque to 2 members of staff from the sanctuary. Loz Lawton- Berry is the events officer and Lily Gray, who joined the sanctuary 5 months ago having studied zoology at university.
Loz went on to thank the group saying that the cost of heating and animal feed had greatly increased recently so funds were really welcomed.
At a fundraising event at the sanctuary with the Vectis 40s Vintage group Ian Lawton, second chef, created a 40s type menu including Lord Woolton Pie, Bubble and Squeak and Apple and Blackberry (locally foraged) crumble.
