A pair of new apartments could replace commercial floorspace in the heart of an Isle of Wight coastal town.
Allen Planning is seeking to transform the first floor of 25 – 27 High Street in Shanklin into a couple of 1-bedroom flats.
An earlier application from the applicant for 3 flats at the site was turned down by planners due to concern over a lack of ‘adequate daylight’ provision.
In a 19th November letter to County Hall, Allen Planning said commercial space at ground and lower ground floor level would not be altered by the latest plans.
It said:
“This revised application has removed the proposed conversion of the lower ground floor of the building. The proposed revised scheme would provide adequate natural light into all of the habitable rooms of both of the proposed apartments.
“The use of this floorspace as residential would be likely to generate less traffic when compared to the former Class E use (commercial, business and service).”
County Hall’s public consultation on application 25/01684/3MAPA finishes on 7th January and a decision date has been scheduled for 23rd January.
