An unwell passenger onboard the Queen Mary II – located off the Isle of Wight coast – has been airlifted to hospital tonight (Tuesday).
Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter from Lee on Solent flew low over the Island at 21:40 as the rescue crew flew out to the Cunard-owned cruise ship.
The liner left Southampton earlier this evening en route to New York.
The casualty has been flown to Horsea Island in Portsmouth to be conveyed to Queen Alexandra Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat has also been on a shout in the same area of St Catherine’s Point, but their mission is not thought to be connected.

Just to let you know the Queen Mary 2 is not a cruise ship it is an ocean liner
It’s the only ocean liner too I’ve been on it and it’s lovely
Your right. It was designed for trans Atlantic crossings, not cruising. Not many persons are aware of this…..
Not the first passenger to be airlifted to hospital from the Ocean Liner Queen Mary II. There was two passengers who were taken ill and had to be airlifted a few years back. Hope the passenger makes a full recovery.
There’s so much illness happening in the world right now and one day you might just wake up and smell the coffee!
