A fox cub found in a weak and wobbly state has been rescued and treated thanks to the swift action of The Friends of the Animals charity and a local veterinary team.
The young cub, described as underweight and unstable by homeowners who found the animal in their garden, was taken to The People’s Vet where veterinarian Pete administered urgent treatment.
The cub – named Quinn – was given subcutaneous fluids to address dehydration, a long-acting antibiotic injection, and spot-on treatment for lungworm.
Friends of the Animals described the cub as in a ‘sorry state’ and there was real concern over her survival.
After initial care, Quinn was transferred to a prepared crate at an office in Newport with food and water. Encouraging signs followed when she stood up and began to eat.
The next morning, wildlife expert Edward Albert collected the cub to continue her recovery and rehabilitation.
Members of the public are being reminded to put out fresh water for wildlife during the hot weather, ensuring bowls are shallow to prevent hedgehogs from drowning and are washed daily to maintain hygiene.
