Young people aged 14 to 25 across the Isle of Wight are being offered a unique opportunity to experience life in the maritime industry this Easter, with a limited number of funded places still available on a 5-day training programme at UKSA.
Starting on Monday 30th March, the Maritime Futures Programme is an immersive, hands-on course designed to introduce participants to a wide range of careers at sea, from watersports and yachting to engineering and hospitality.
Based at UKSA’s waterfront campus in Cowes, the programme can be taken as either a fully residential experience or non-residential, making it accessible for both Island residents and those travelling in.
Across the 5 days, participants will gain practical experience in:
- Watersports including sailing and paddleboarding
- Navigation and marine engineering
- Deckhand and yacht crew skills
- Interior and hospitality roles onboard superyachts
No prior experience is required, making it ideal for those considering their next steps in education or a future career.
Issac Turner, Education & MCA tutor from UKSA said:
“This programme is all about giving young people a real insight into what a career at sea could look like. It’s practical, engaging, and often a turning point for those unsure of their next step.”
The residential programme includes all food, accommodation, equipment and tuition. Importantly, funding support is available through the Sea Change Fund, offering fully funded and part-funded places to help ensure that financial or personal circumstances are not a barrier to taking part.
With the Easter course fast approaching, a number of spaces are still available, and those interested are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to secure a place.
