UDPATED: Two children have been rescued in East Cowes this evening (Friday) after passers by spotted the pair in difficulty just off of the shore line.
Cowes RNLI and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to the scene on the Esplanade at around 21:20 following reports of two children drifting with the current out towards the open sea.
The boy and girl, aged 11 and 12, were safely brought back ashore and kept warm. Thankfully, both have escaped any injury and have been taken home by Coastguard team members tonight.
Cowes RNLI have now returned to station, ready for service.
UPDATE SATURDAY: It was a busy night for Bembridge Coastguard, attending three other incidents.
Prior to arriving at East Cowes, Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to Seaview following reports of a speedboat having broken down. Bembridge RNLI’s all weather lifeboat was tasked to launch, however the task was cancelled just prior to actually launching when it was ascertained that a local RIB was alongside the broken down boat and dealing with it.
Bembridge Coastguard had earlier in the evening assisted ambulance crews at Appley Beach in Ryde and later in the evening attended a serious incident at Wightlink’s Fishbourne terminal.
