Tributes are being paid to Chris Hall, founder of Isle of Wight Distribution and devoted father-of-8, who passed away last week aged 64.
Born in Luton on 5th April 1961, Chris later made the Isle of Wight his home, where he built not only a successful business but also a large and loving family.
In his younger years, Chris worked on the market alongside Freddie Lee, showing the entrepreneurial spirit that would shape much of his life. By the age of 17, he had already earned a reputation as something of a real-life Del Boy – hardworking, resourceful and always striving to make a better life for those around him.
Chris was the devoted partner of Karen and a proud father to 8 children – Tara, Tiffany, Tanya, Tasmin, Thomas, Thalia, Tonichea and Tia. He was also a much-loved grandfather to 14 grandchildren.
Chris’ family say he worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved, often joking that he would “shovel anything for a fiver” if it meant putting food on the table. That relentless work ethic defined his life.

More than 25 years ago back in 2001, Chris helped launch Isle of Wight Distribution, starting out as little more than a “man in a van”. Despite experiencing setbacks, including a period of bankruptcy, Chris never gave up. Through determination and hard work he rebuilt the business into one of the Island’s major logistics operations.
Today the company operates from Merstone, employing around 100 staff and nearly 90 vehicles, delivering up to 1.5million parcels each year to homes and businesses across the Isle of Wight.
The firm also bought mainland-based Acclaim Logistics in 2021, and uses the Chandler’s Ford base to sort and hold the parcels coming over to the Island.
Away from work, Chris and his partner Terry enjoyed going on cruise holidays and attending various music festivals, with Chris’ family saying he always tried to ‘live life to the fullest’.
Chris was known for his humour, infectious personality and deep commitment to his family. He was also supportive of local causes, including Mountbatten Isle of Wight.

His daughter Tasmin paid tribute to her father, saying:
“He literally was truly the best dad in the world.”
“The Best human anyone would have the privilege of knowing. Funny, dedicated, infectious – a real Del Boy and the most dedicated father.”
A celebration of Chris’s life will take place at 12:00 on Thursday 26th March at the Isle of Wight Crematorium, followed by a wake at The Folly Inn.
His family have said that anyone who knew Chris is welcome to attend, as they hope to give him the send-off he deserves.
