Transport leaders from across the Isle of Wight have met to discuss how closer collaboration can help build a more resilient transport network for the future.
The latest meeting of the Island Transport and Infrastructure Forum took place on Monday 8th June, bringing together representatives from ferry, bus and rail operators, Island Roads, Visit Isle of Wight, the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce and the Isle of Wight Council.
Discussions focused on both immediate issues and longer-term planning, with members reviewing progress on joint working around roadworks, disruption communications, integrated ticketing and travel opportunities for young people.
A positive update was also given on the new Isle of Wight Highway Authorities and Utilities Committee, which brings together the council, Island Roads and utility companies to improve coordination and help minimise avoidable disruption.
Looking ahead, forum members began discussing what the Island’s transport system could look like in the future, including the role of data and technology, improvements to public transport, active travel, water-based transport and stronger infrastructure planning.
Those present agreed to continue developing ideas to support delivery of the Island Transport implementation plan and to engage with both the new Isle of Wight Council administration and the Hampshire and Solent County Combined Authority.
The next meeting of the Island Transport and Infrastructure Forum is scheduled to take place on 21st September 2026.
