A tractor and trailer unit has lost its load of cauliflowers near Arreton this lunchtime (Saturday), which is causing traffic delays on the main Sandown to Newport Road.
The trailer full of brassicas has overturned on Blackwater Road between the junction of East Lane and Merstone Lane.
No one has been injured in the incident but traffic is backing up in both directions as motorists pass the spilt vegetables in single file.
A boundary fence belonging to Hillcroft Turf has been destroyed.
Police are on scene and are assisting with directing traffic.
UPDATE @ 12:44 – The road has now been closed in both directions as the clear up operation begins.
An army of workers have arrived to clear the fresh produce and plans are being put in place to right the trailer and clear the scene, allowing the road to re-open.
Unfortunately the same problem tractor going into corner too fast probably top heavy, not inspiring when you see so many tractor trailers overturning
Seems to be evil spirits on the island at the moment.
If there are, they’ve probably been privatised by now.
That driver will get a cauliflower ear from his boss lol
Be ok when they turnip-up the right way
He’ll be well cheesed off !
Tractor driver must have got the colliwobbles
Like it
Looks like a classic case of going too fast.
When will something be done about these speeding tractors? Someone will get killed one day
I totally agree, the speed they travel through Arreton is way beyond the speed limit!
This is the third or fourth incident involving a tractor towing a trailer.
They drive far too fast and wonder why they keep having accidents.
Before long someone is going to be killed.
This is what happens when you let children play with heavy machinery!
It swerved to miss a cheese lorry coming in the other direction. Make your own jokes, folks!.
The employer should be prosecuted, he puts his emlyees under unreasonable pressure…..just like most employers do.
Why should the employer be fined ? how do you know they were put under unreasonable pressure. Pretty sure you don’t know for certain. Also these harvesting rigs can do 40 kmp flat out so how can they speed in a 30 mph zone in arreton ?. Obviously there are faster ones on the Island but definitely not these rigs .
Just how fast was this one going – tooooooo fast no doubt. If these tractor/trailor drivers are not told to drive sensibly then someone will get seriously hurt. AND I hope the cauliflowers were salvaged.
Oh no that looks dangerous
A case of the cauliwobbles.
Look at the skid marks in the photo it tells its own story
plonker going to fast …you can,t park there sir….
If in doubt keep her flat out if those wheels ain’t turning their not earning
