Traffic on the main road from Newport to Sandown is slow but flowing this afternoon (Saturday) following a crash at Branstone Cross.
Police and paramedics remain at the incident, which has occurred on Newport Road at the crossroads junction with Princelett Shute and Winford Road.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised an appliance in the interests of scene safety, but the single crew have since stood down.
A yellow Nissan Juke has been moved to the side of the road but it’s unclear if any other vehicles have been involved.
The road remains open in both directions but there are delays.
The crash occurred at around 13:40.

What is scene safety?
Should that not be ‘ in the interests of ROAD safety’?
Clearly the safety of the accident scene to prevent further injury.
Not too hard to understand.
As much as I hate traffic lights and combined with the fact that a lot of drivers don’t know how to use mini roundabouts it is definitely time to install traffic sensitive lights at this location.
Yeah I agree. A few other places could actually benefit from sensitive lights as well. Whiteley bank being one.
As more people fill the UK daily forcing the locals to move to places like the Island then, regrettable though it is, more accidents will occur due to increased traffic.
Love the bit of road so easy for an experienced driver like me to do a ton plus.Less experienced drivers need to go slower but always remain 100% focused.Slow down you muppets before somebody get’s seriously injured. (By the way racing speedygonzalez from Chale to Freshwater later today)
There appears to be just the one ‘muppet’ here.
Ladies and gentlemen may I introduce you to STUART the one and only muppet.
My mistake, there’s now two!
Stuart you pot head where you been
You sad little boy.
Nice try Boyracer but you still can’t get near my PB for Chale to Freshwater and no way were you going past by Brightstone turnoff.Good to see you kept up when I hit a ton thirty but I still had plenty in reserve.Same time next week ok?
Surely not more speeding on the Island in such torrential
weather conditions.
Gosh, I hope it isn’t that disabled girl who had so much flack for parking near her parents home in Great Preston road. She now has to hobble a long way since the yellow lines were cruelly installed there.
Whoever I hope they are ok as a dangerous junction which needs light or a LARGE roundabout, as small ones cause more probs than they solve.
No disabled girl in Great Preston Road, you mean the lazy person who
use to make the Road UNSAFE for everyone until Island Roads done a
great job by installing the much needed Double yellow lines to STOP
Selfish persons bringing the Road to a complete standstill.
Well done to Island Roads and a big thank you for Cllr Jordan.
Great Preston Road is a much better place now for all
Islanders
I love parking on double yellow using my blue badge and Jason you can’t do nothing about it ha
Andrew good luck if you have a blue badge, some people are genuine and
some are not.
I am not against Blue Badge holders, just persons who make Roads unsafe for
other motorists.

May be for you ok now ,but can’t see a thing to the right of our driveway ,with all the cars and vans parked . Getting off the driveway now is so dangerous for us .
Vans should not be allowed to park along Roads blocking
people’s vision.
IW Council should provide car parks for such vehicles.
Permit Parking would help, charge by size of vehicles.

Phil the problem is many households own too many vehicles.
There’s been a white Van parked along Great Preston Road for over 5 months
with NO MOT
The van was reported to IW Council and Island Roads and they have done
nothing about removing it.
There is no Law and Order on Island Roads.
I own 1 car and so does my daughter, we would be happy to pay
for a parking permit, that would stop many vehicles parking on
Island Roads.
It’s a pain in the ar*e it’s been parked outside 115 Great Preston Rd
for months.

Crossing over the road is sooooo far away. Apply for a disabled space to be put in place opposite her house if she struggles with mobility. Was a pain in the arse when the van n car was parked there
If she was that bad why not park on the drive where she lives.

It’s a 30 mph road but very few people stick to the speed limit!!!
No wonder accidents are created here !!!!
Yes I say created because they wouldn’t happen if people didn’t speed …
Miss goodie two shoes get a life
People like you are a massive problem on our roads, what dragged you up????…
On the other hand too many idiots go too slow as well.
Can I just point out (for the sake of clarity and fairness) that until recently this part of the road was designated a clearway until the day all these 30mph signs appeared. I have driven that road and used that junction for many many years and it took me a couple of days to see the new posted limit so perhaps there are tourists who also haven’t noticed the change as they weren’t here when the changes occurred? Obviously only the driver knows what happened, and nice to see the usual suspects blaming immigration, going too slow, too fast and demanding major roadworks because of a simple, single car?, incident. It could be the first major incident this year to read some of these comments.. perhaps ‘chill out’ might be appropriate?
Very true.
Speed Camera’s Islandwide is the answer.
More idiots speeding in a 30 max limit will be along soon, our roads are Lawless….and most of the so-called adults that are allowed to vote and drive don’t give a stuff….
There are NO speed Cameras on the Island, hence people breaking the
rules on a daily basis.
I would be happy to pay more council tax if the money was used remake the
Roads safer for everyone.
Please leave the kids alone your to old
