There have been mixed fortunes for the Island’s top trials riders recently after 2 rounds of this year’s British championships.
The 1st round was held at Hookwood in Surrey where local ace Chris Stay was forced to retire after a heavy crash on lap 2 damaged his bike beyond repair on the day.
It was a better day for George Gosden who finished with the best score of the day in the expert class. However, added time penalties in what was an incredibly tough event saw him take 3rd place on the podium.
Round 2 took place near Neath in South Wales and proved a much better day for Stay who took the lead after the 1st lap, but being unable to train while his bike was being repaired – and subsequent time off the bike – saw him slip back to what was still a very respectable 2nd place. This was his best finish so far in the highly competitive Trial 2 class, and bodes well for the rest of the series.
But for Gosden it was a day he would rather forget. Despite his best efforts an uncharacteristic 6th place was all he could manage. Despite this, George still holds onto 3rd in the championship and will be hoping to be back on the podium at Round 3 in the Lake District in April.
