With the Summer holidays finally here – although the weather isn’t exactly summery – here’s what’s coming up in the world of local theatre in August… Curtain Call Creative bring new-for-summer weekly showings of the well-known and loved musical ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’. While Curtain Call is primarily known for their fabulous work with young actors, this is a full adult production including a children’s choir, coming to Shanklin Theatre on Tuesday evenings 6th, 13th, 20th August and 3rd September at 20:15. The first ever Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice production to be publicly performed, ‘Joseph’ is an absolute family favourite and Curtain Call Creative are SO excited to bring it to the Isle of Wight for a summer season! The production will see a full cast of some of the Isle of Wight’s most talented musical stars, supported by the children’s chorus of Curtain Call Creative students. Let’s Go, Joseph! Tickets available now at: https://www.shanklintheatre.com/events/joseph_and_the_amazing_technicolor_dreamcoat/details.aspx Over at Niton Village Hall, the Pepperpots are preparing to bring you ‘Two’s Company’ from 30th August – 1st September. Billed as: ‘5 duets to make you laugh…and think’, the programme consists of five short pieces, each of which features just 2 characters – hence, ‘Two’s Company’. Some sketches will make you laugh; some will tug at your heart strings, but they will all entertain. The Pepperpots say:
“There’s a seaside theme running through it, which we thought might help prolong that summer feeling (you know, that summer we are all waiting for!).”
Tickets are on sale now for £7.50 each at ticketsource.co.uk/pepperpots Looking ahead to September, The Apollo will be staging ‘Girl on a Train’; a modern take on ‘The Canterbury Tales’ comes to Trinity Theatre and GASP are back with another Gilbert and Sullivan musical extravaganza: this year it is ‘The Mikado’. Further details on all these shows will be in next month’s theatre column.
