The newly transformed Stonehouse at The Tide Mill has officially reopened its doors, welcoming guests to a fully refurbished venue and a refreshed menu on the shores of Wootton Creek.
Formerly known as The Sloop Inn, the popular pub has undergone a major renovation following significant investment. The reimagined space blends its waterside heritage with modern comfort, featuring original oak beams alongside a bright, updated dining area.
The revamp includes the installation of a state-of-the-art, all-electric kitchen, allowing the team to deliver a wider range of freshly prepared meals with improved efficiency
. As part of the transformation, 12 new jobs have been created across the kitchen and front-of-house teams.
The Tide Mill now has capacity for 204 guests in the main restaurant, with additional seating in the bar area. The new menu features freshly stone-baked pizzas, al Forno dishes, traditional carvery, pub favourites, indulgent desserts such as bubble waffle sundaes, and a wide selection of drinks.
Donna Denness, General Manager, has said:
“We’re so excited to welcome both loyal customers and first-time visitors to discover our new look.
“The refreshed space and upgraded kitchen allow our team to deliver an even better dining experience, and we can’t wait for guests to try the new menu.”
The venue remains dog-friendly and is a convenient stop for walkers, with boat mooring available during high tide. It is now open 7 days a week and serves breakfast daily from 09:00 to 11:30.

Let’s hope it’s better quality than the old slop!
I will check it out.
Sounds ghastly and hate name change.
But have they changed the chef who picks up dropped bolied potatoes on the floor picks them up and puts them back in the pot without even rinsing it? Nobody will use the Slop until the food improves, its overcooked dry or inedible undercooked slop. That’s why the place will be forever known as the Slop. Changing the name of the place and the seating, will not cut it with the Islanders they will need in the winter. Ps rest of staff are lovely.
Majority of businesses are filthy, you only have to
look at the staff for clarification.
Slightly wrong terminology there somewhere, “not formally known as,” it should be “formally named as” because it will still be known as the sloop.
Sorry to be picky, but it’s like the recent renaming to “Hampshire and the “Solent” for the upcoming Unitary Authority, I am still going to use “Isle of Wight” in my address.
The Sloop used to be a wonderful, old and, like The Folly at Whippingham, characterful and ‘proper’ pub. A haunt of seafaring, fishing and boaty people as well as locals and visitors. I used to deliver boats across the Solent sixty years ago, and it was with a great feeling of relief and even joy that The Sloop hove into sight with the promise of a pint and pie. Times change and I haven’t seen the new pub, but I bet they’ve spent a treasure trove on evoking a past that never was, and in the process destroyed the last traces of character
Hopefully the scary woman in charge has been replaced, otherwise there’ll be no change… Some bad attitudes in The Sloop last couple times I went plus cold and measly breakfast. Heard that the Roasts were sub standard too…
Never had a problem with the sloop other than messing up on a company coupon. Food has always been good but will see if they actually refurbished or just moved things around
