An Isle of Wight councillor has slammed a ‘ridiculous’ lack of parking restrictions in Lake during the works on Lake Hill – with fears that traffic chaos could ensue tomorrow morning (Monday) as school traffic resumes.
Councillor Paul Brading has raised fears ahead of Monday’s school run saying that a lack of no parking cones on The Fairway and Perowne Way will mean chaos.
Network Rail is currently carrying out a 12-week project on its railway bridge, across Lake Hill. For the work to happen safely, Lake Hill has been one-way since last Monday.
It was expected that ‘no waiting at any time’ parking restriction would be introduced along parts of The Fairway, Station Approach and Perowne Way, to ensure safety on the diversion route. The restrictions should have been in place from 07:00 last Monday, remaining in situ until 17:00 on Friday 5th May.
However, they have not arrived.
Cllr Paul Brading said he has raised the issue and complained multiple times to Island Roads over the past 5 days.
Speaking at Lake Parish Council meeting on Thursday, he said it was his biggest problem with the work, but had been told it was for Network Rail to put out the bollards and for Island Roads to monitor it.
Cllr Brading called on the authorities to reopen Lake Hill, saying Network Rail had not complied with instructions and added it was also causing an issue for lorries and buses.
A Network Rail spokesperson said its traffic management contractor would be attending the site as soon as possible to investigate.
Island Roads said it was aware of initial issues with the traffic arrangements and had raised it with Network Rail. The highways authority said it would monitor the situation and take action where required, to ensure local disruption is minimised.

More mirrors beat off, they should remove the speed bumps for good and allow this route to be used as another main route from Lake to Brading now traffic is much higher.
Why should speed bumps be put there, as no more dangerous a road than any other, and it would relive pressure at lights by the heights etc.
Just needs a mini roundabout where war memorial now is, sorted for the future then.
Is there any work being done on this bridge? there was a flurry of activity to start with, then very little. Why not try temp lights by that bridge, its only a short distance. I know they can be a pain in the arse but worth a try maybe.
Who really cares? Island roads are a total joke. Most of our council tax is wasted on this scamming shower. Bunch of hopeless, lazy good for nothings. Deep dive and see who gets all our money. Meanwhile, thickest kids being pumped out by worst educational system in the UK. What a wunch of bankers.
Cerrtainly temporary no parking outside rugby club as its a bottleneck.
Many f*ckwits still parking infront of rugby club despite cones. Traffic wardens should have a field day !!
I think it’s terrible!
Its only a small part of the road that is affected by the bridge works so could they not have put traffic lights either side of the works and kept the minor roads like the Fairway open, of course not, thats just using common sense.
I live down the fairway, and I will be posting my car where I have don’t for the last 18 years, I am not going to park 300 yards away from my house because island roads cannot do a job properly, I’m 76 years of age, so cannot carry anything heavy to my house, hsve the council or island roads actually thought about the elderly?
Use your drive !!
Pure Genius along The Fairway, someone has taken the time to put a load of No Parking cones along the side of the road which already has Parking Restrictions in place. Does anyone at Island Roads or the Council have a functioning brain.
Every house on the Fairway has a driveway.
USE IT….!!!!
I do have a driveway, I do use it, I do not live on The Fairway!!!!!
But some only got 1 car,
Imagine if a little island you could cross in 1h on an e-bike had better and safer commuting infrastructure for bicycles: most kids could just cycle to school themselves like in Netherlands, hang out with their friends, learn independence (I hear Brits do like independence #Brexit ;)), obesity rates down, helps NHS long term, £ save on a 2nd car and fuel, less noise and pollution, time saved for parents who are no longer chauffeurs.
And even roads would be better: hundreds of “mom SUVs” less = fewer traffic jams for delivery drivers, disabled, and others who actually need to drive.
There’s a reason NL drivers are literally happier in all polls than UK drivers and that is: less people driving!
And what about people who are disabled, maybe if cyclists actually used the cycle routes provided at high cost that would allow motorists to drive without having to form long queues generating increased levels of pollution whilst driving behind these sainted cyclists that seem unable to use these safe routes that have been provided for them.
Are you really that thick…..?
Or a wind up….lol.
IMO, Nobody should be allowed to own a car,
unless you own or rent private land to store them on.
Or/and only one car per household, not per person.
Win, win for everybody, apart for the selfish few.
Sorry but I can’t see a response to what I said, as to the point of how many cars one owns as far as I can see you can only drive one car at a time, car owners subsidise the rest of the population. Unfortunately for you we live in a free society so as you said your opinion is just that. Please note I have responded to you without resorting to abuse. Surely that is a sign of intelligence, whereas I have found that people that resort to abuse tend to be shall we say mentally challenged.
Surely you jest. With the fortune spent on road construction and maintenance, the cost of policing, medical care for car-related issues, etc. it’s car owners who are subsidized.
Tax costs attributable to a car for a car based on 9000 miles per year is in the region of about £1100 fuel duty, £165 road tax and about £60 for tax on Car Insurance. If an Ambulance is called out to a road accident the Insurance Company which the car is covered by have to pay for the it to attend from memory ( not called out for me) about 7 years ago the charge was about £200. The Insurance Company is also liable for other medical charges relating to a road traffic accident, this money being ploughed back into the health service.Policing fines go straight back to the treasury, so all in all the Tax man and the Health Service do very well out of the Motorist. And as part of the Council Tax we pay for upkeep of roads as well.
Yawn…….You are soooo boring,
Nothing but non truths and nonsense.
Sorry i called you “thick” buttercup…..
But you started it firsf, someone with a non functioning brain, i recall.
AND Susan N did mention the disabled.
AND it was you who mentioned The Fairway, so who cares where you live ffs x.
