Police have launched an investigation after a group of teenagers were threatened with a knife in Sandown, with a man claiming he would ‘slice them up’ before then attempting to run the teens over. The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Premier store on Broadway, Sandown at around 20:00 yesterday evening (Wednesday). It’s claimed that a man pulled up in a Nissan Note before approaching a small group of teenagers, which included a 15-year-old boy. A flick knife was brandished, leaving the children fearing for their safety. The group fled the area but it is alleged the Nissan Note driver gave pursuit, driving the wrong way down a one-way street before then attempting to run the teens over whilst they were on the pavement. An eyewitness has told Island Echo that the offender shouted: “If I ever catch you hanging around there again I’ll slice you up”. It’s after this statement that the male pulled out a knife and started to give chase on foot, before switching to a car. A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“Police have received a report of a teenage boy being threatened with a knife near to the disused Manor Spa Hotel [Melville Hall] in Sandown. “It was reported that during a verbal altercation between a 15-year-old boy and a man, which occurred between 8pm and 8.30pm last night (24 April), the man produced a flick knife and made threats towards the boy. The boy and his friends ran off to escape the man. “A short while later, it was reported that as the boys were walking down the street a car, described as a black Nissan Note, mounted the pavement, causing the boys to jump out of the way”.
No arrests have been made, but enquiries remain ongoing.
