Thieves smashed their way into Ryde’s Superbowl earlier this week in a bid to steal alcohol from behind the bar, just days after an extensive refurbishment was completed. The incident occurred shortly after 23:00 on Wednesday night (13th March), prompting a Police investigation to be launched. The thieves – described as young teenagers – forced entry into the premises by smashing a glass window and jumping down into the lobby area, before then heading for the newly refurbished bar. Having picked up some bottles of cider, the perpetrators used arcade amusements to make good their getaway, damaging a 2p pusher in the process. Forensic Investigators have today (Friday) been analysing the crime scene.
A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“We were called at 12:20 on Thursday 14th March to a report of a burglary at Ryde Superbowl. “It was reported that entry had been forced to the premises. “Several bottles of alcohol were reported to have been taken. “Officers are currently carrying out enquiries into this incident. No arrests have been made at the current time.”
A spokesperson from Ryde Superbowl has said:
“The whole team is very disheartened to see all the hard work put in to renovate the place, undone so quickly.”
Island Echo understands that there has been a rise in similar crimes in the Ryde area recently. It was just 3 days ago that Island Echo exclusively reported on the extensive refurbishment works undertaken at Ryde Superbowl.
