A teenage girl who was tragically killed in a road traffic collision near Arreton earlier this month has been named as 19-year-old Michaela Logan from Carisbrooke Road, Newport.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Michaela was driving along the main Sandown to Newport road late on Friday 10th January when she was involved in a single-vehicle collision at Hale Common.
Michaela’s 2002 Ford Fiesta left the road and collided with a wall before coming to a stop some distance down the road. Sadly, there was nothing that could be done for Michaela and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The full circumstances of the incident are still being investigated by Police and there is an appeal out for witnesses. In addition to the Fiesta, 2 other vehicles were recovered from the scene – a BMW X3 driven by a witness that was passing the scene and a Ford Focus.
Michaela’s family have today (Wednesday) paid tribute to the ‘wonderfully caring and patient young lady’. In a statement they have said:
“Michaela was a wonderfully caring and infinitely patient young lady whose impact on this world is far more reaching than it should have been for someone who was with us for such a short time.
“With a smile that lit any room, she leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who loved her.”
Michaela was well known in the car scene locally. Island Echo understands there are plans for a memorial car meet to be held in due course. A free car sticker remembering Michaela will be available at the event with donations to The Wight Brainy Bunch – a charity she supported.
Police are asking anyone with information about the collision, or dashcam footage, to call them on 101, quoting 44200012614.
Michaela’s brother, Tom, has announced that Michaela’s first batch of car stickers are available at JW Autoshine Vehicle Detailing Ltd in Rookley.
All they are asking in return is a donation to The Wight Brainy Bunch.

As it was a single vehicle collision, just wondering why would the BMW X3 driven by a witness and the Ford Focus have to be recovered as well ?
Maybe it was treated as a potential ‘crime scene’ and they are treated part of the scene?
Debris hit one of the other cars, not sure about the other.
There is stuff which is not being made public, for some reason.
The situation is tragic enough as it is, the family don’t need public speculation.
The full story won’t be revealed for many months.
John, perhaps this quote from this very sad article may give clues.
“Michaela was well known in the car scene locally”
This could indicate that she was traveling along with other ‘petrol head friends in their cars’ to socialise. OR, it could hint she may have been street racing.
But that is for the Police to find out, and either way, a sad waste of a young girl, just enjoying life, so it is unfair to blame, for it is too late for her now.
Do you not remember being young, and feeling a little invincible ?
Her sad young death may help others think about the dangers of driving on our ill lit, pot holed, narrow roads just a little more carefully, and hopefully save someone else’s life
To isolate any potential evidence.
Maybe after being the first person on the scene of fatal RTA you just don’t feel like driving home.
Maybe following her car ?
Might have been sized due to tax/mot/insurance
I would say it because damage caused by the young girls car. Evidence.
Remember, someone lost their life, so everything could hold a clue
Its a shame she dies my condolences to the family ..as I live opposite and heard it..she was going well over the 50 limit..I hope the police have some way to stop driving like this dien through arretton..its not a race track…
Evidence of this? Police didn’t find any. Skid marks don’t back up claims of speed.
Skid marks do go a long way to establishing likely speed… just google it.
Skid marks ONLY apply if you brake hard. Should you drive into something which brings you to an abrupt halt, there will be no skid marks. THINK
Mr aziz as u obviously dont work or have any life..because you comment on every single piece of news I think u should take a step back and just not bother getting involved as ure comments obviously upset the majority maybe you should become a reporter you obviously dint have anything positive to say u would fit right in…
The car ended up 120m from itscrash point..thats more than 4 swimming pool lengths …so u can look at the braking points on the back of your highway code and work out the speed…it wad more than 50 I can assure you..driving through the gears in high revs as I did hear ..its not silverstone..
My POINT is still relevant. If this poor girls INITIAL impact stunned, disabled or made her incapable of breaking there would be NO skid marks visible to the point where the car stopped.
I am not saying the car was not breaking speed limit, or that she was in the wrong, I am saying it is a massive price to pay for someone young. Many people speed, but don’t end up paying this awful price, and it is not just her but her loved ones suffering too.
Just hope others will think a bit, yet we all think we are invincible, UNTIL it happens to us.
heard from someone else, that had friends interviewed by the police, because they were travelling along that road at the time…
they were overtaken by the girl driving that car at great speed, just before the crash.
I have texts from her friends on my phone to back that up, that is why I said what I said
“Well known in the car scene”
Is that slang for a boy/girl racer who thinks they’re in some video game?
Because it is terrible that this woman lost her life, yet if people continue to drive the way they do as I’ve seen them, this will only continue to happen….
John Miller!!!!!!
Always one!
Let the family grieve, without jumping to conclusions, just wait and see what happened!
They certainly don’t need to read comments like that.
My thoughts are with you all.
West Wighter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven’t jumped to any conclusions,I wondered why in a single vehicle collision two more cars were recovered, please explain how that is jumping to conclusions if you can !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they didn’t want to read comments, I’m sure they’d stay well away from media….
R.I.P
Such a sad sad loss
So sorry for your loss. Such a tragic loss far to soon
WANT TO SEE THE POLICE REPORT SOMETHING VERY WRONG HERE DID THE CAR FAIL OR DID THE DRIVER HAVE A MEDICAL INCIDENT ,WERE OTHER FACTORS INVOLVED LETS WAIT AND SEE BEFORE JUDGING
No need to shout!
What’s it got to do with you anyway! Just a tragedy whatever happened. A poor young girls life cut short and everyone is making accusations and assumptions. Leave the family to know the truth and grieve.
This is so very sad such a waste of a young life, our thoughts are with her family
I’m sure that the Suzuki dealership near the crash site have cctv so… Police can see if there’s something on them… Also they can check the houses around if they hace cameras too :/
There is a speed camera right near the crash site. Don’t those cameras take pictures of speeding cars ? .
There is no speed camera near the crash site, only a speed camera sign, all the fixed speed cameras on the Island have been switched off for years any way
I’m sure they’ve already done that!
So so sad she lost her life. I didn’t know her but I’ve heard such good things. Unfortunately I’ve been overtaken by her in her Ford many many times, at great speed, so when they say ‘well known in the car scene’ they mean girl racer. I really hope it wasn’t something like that that caused this. She hit a wall and travelled fair distance after so there must have been a fair speed. Too many people are in a hurry, id rather get there alive. Nobody deserves this. Mistakes do happen. Fly high and sweet dreams!!
SAYS IT ALL !! THE TRUTH IS SLOWLEY COMING OUT WHAT NEXT ???
A tragic loss of a beautiful life That should still be here living and making memories, Now one that Tom will have to live on for , with his little sister watching over him ,Michaela s job with their mum and dad will be keeping him safe ❤️Xxx
Her car a Ford Focus ST is front-wheel drive and in the wet are sometimes hard to control especially with an inexperienced driver. If she “was” speeding it wouldn’t have taken much to lose control of the vehicle, hit the wall and continued to move further down. It is very doubtful that any information will be shared with the public only what is given by family and close friends. As for the 3 vehicles, in a “Single” car collision, that simply means that her car was the only car in motion, “collected” could mean a lot, but in this instance, if these cars are close by and/or struck by her moving car, they would all be collected for evidence checking. But also, the whole car is collected mostly by video evidence. The X3 or the other Focus may have had a dashcam, so that could be used.
All of you really want shut up!!
Just sit back, keep your comment to yourselves!!
Leave the poor girl and her grieving family alone.
You all disgust me.
She was driving a fiesta not focus st
Please stop speculating and giving opinions on the cause of the crash. The police will release details as they see fit. Remember a young woman has died tragically and her family are in shock and grieving. They don’t need to hear opinions and guesswork on the cause of the crash.
RIP beautiful girl. Condolences to her family and friends
Why doesn’t everyone jus stop jumping on the bandwagon. You’re all questioning it like you’re the people that’s dealing with this. How about have some respect for her family and let the police do their job and putting the pieces to the puzzle together themselves. An innocent, young life has jus been taken so have some god damn respect instead of working out how it happened yourselves
Funny how I got so many negative reviews when I said all this a week ago, how opinions have changed now, I do hope the evidence reveals the truth of what happened, I felt bad about saying what I said but maybe I was right, EH!
Such a shame but with that stretch of road and of a girl in the car scene means one thing SPEEDING yet this time it was herself who she harmed. It’s sad for her family as I’m sure they’ll look back and feel awful but if a child has something they love in their hearts such as cats then you can’t stop them from expressing themselves but I need say no more but at least no one else was hurt from her mistakes
I pray the young lady is in heaven now
Heart goes out to Tom in this difficult of times. Please stop the morbid speculation as to what did or didn’t happen, have some respect for Tom, the rest of the family and for the memory of Michaela. Peace out
She is
