A 17-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of the attempted rape of a woman in St Lawrence yesterday (Wednesday) has been released with no further action, but Police continue to quiz a 28-year-old man over the woodland incident.
As first reported by Island Echo, officers were deployed to the Undercliff Drive area shortly before 10:00 on Wednesday after receiving a report that a female had been assaulted in woods between Undercliff Drive and Hunts Road.
A 28-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested in the area and were taken into custody at Newport Police Station for questioning.
It has now been confirmed that the teenager has been released with no further action, however, detectives have secured a custody extension for the 28-year-old man, who still remains in custody at this time.
Police said yesterday that the woman did not sustain any serious injuries in the incident.
