28-year-old Douglas Knight has been charged with false imprisonment with intent to commit a sexual offence following a serious incident in St Lawrence on Wednesday morning.
The incident is said to have occurred in amongst woodland between Undercliff Drive and Hunts Road shortly before 09:40, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Knight, of no fixed abode, was arrested within hours of the alleged assault and was taken into custody for questioning. Detectives were yesterday granted a custody extension to continue quizzing the suspect.
Now, the 28-year-old has been charged and remanded in custody to appear before Portsmouth Magistrates Court later today (Christmas Eve).
A 17-year-old who was also arrested on Wednesday has since been released with no further action.
Police say that the woman did not sustain any serious injuries in the incident.
