A technical issue has forced the cancellation of all services on Hovertravel’s Ryde-Southsea route this morning (Wednesday).
It’s the second time in 2 days that the cross-Solent operation has ground to a halt due to technical problems with the Flyer craft.
Provisions have been made for those planning on travelling via Hovercraft today to use Wightlink’s FastCat service instead.
An update is expected at 09:00 but it is unclear at this stage if services are likely to resume at that time.
UPDATE @ 09:15 – Services have now resumed from Ryde, with the next crossing from Southsea at 09:30.
It’s understood that Hovertravel are operating with just 1 craft as Island Flyer is undergoing works at Griffon Hoverwork in Southampton.

Built by the same people as built the Floating Bridge?
I thought there were more than one craft.
There are two, as the article states.
Told you all yesterday – need some air to blow them up again!
well you lot moaning at least they have a service all through the lock down not like wight link did and they rush patients over in a emergency for hospital
Well said me me, as usual some people are always quick to criticise.
This article is INCORRECT. The service has TWO Hovercraft.
One of these ‘Island Flyer’ is currently in Southampton having some maintenance work carried out whilst the other craft ‘Solent Flyer’ is STILL ferrying passengers back a forth across the Solent.
Er… Hello…. Just as the article states…. Wake up
There is NO reason for your rudeness.
This article stated wrongly that the service “ground to a halt”.It didn’t. Island Flyer went to Southampton and returned to Ryde at 12:20 today. In the preceding days Solent Flyer CONTINUED to provide the excellent service Hover Travel provide.
