UPDATED: Around 15m of guttering has fallen from Tesco Extra in Ryde this evening, prompting a 999 response from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
One pumping appliance and one aerial ladder appliance from Ryde Fire Station are currently attending the Brading Road superstore and are assisting in the removal of the twisted and fallen metal guttering, which has come down as a result of the high winds and heavy rain.
Flash flooding is occurring across the Isle of Wight this evening and motorists are being urged to take extreme caution due to a number of low-hanging branches, fallen trees and raised drain covers.
Red Funnel’s hi-speed service has been suspended alongside Hovertravel’s Ryde to Southsea service, Wightlink’s Ryde Pier to Portsmouth service and their Yarmouth-Lymington car ferry. The Cowes Floating Bridge has also been suspended.
UPDATE @ 18:18 – A number of reports are coming in this evening that the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at Busy Bee Garden Center in Ryde. The property has flooded previously during heavy rain.
UPDATE @ 18:25 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have now left the scene at Tesco on Brading Road in Ryde. They were initially called to the scene at around 17:25.
