The sun shone down on the Isle of Wight yesterday as 2,000 cyclists enjoyed the Islands beauty, albeit with an unusual diversion.
Participants of the annual Isle of Wight Randonnee couldn’t have asked for better as they cycled between 55 and 100kms around the Island’s towns and countryside, but one important aspect to the route was missing for the first time in over 30 years.
Due to maintenance work on the Cowes to East Cowes floating bridge, riders were forced to divert via Newport Quay and Seaclose Park, rejoining the normal route at Whippingham.
The ferry ports were alive with activity as hundreds of cyclists rolled on and rolled off the cross-Solent services before heading clockwise around the Island.
