Geoff Underwood, who founded one of the Isle of Wight’s leading technology firms, has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours with an OBE.
Geoffrey Paul Underwood DL, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Inflight Peripherals Limited, has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to the technology industry.
Mr Underwood established Inflight Peripherals on the Isle of Wight and has overseen its growth into an internationally recognised business supplying specialist equipment and technology solutions.
Beyond his business success, Mr Underwood has played a prominent role in Island life. He founded WightAID in 2015, helping direct funding from local businesses to charities and community organisations across the Isle of Wight. He has also served as President of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce and was appointed High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight in 2019.
His honour appears in the King’s Birthday Honours list, which recognises individuals from across the UK for their contribution to public life and their communities.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said:
“Across the UK, people are quietly changing lives and strengthening their communities. This Honours List is a chance to recognise them.
“Their dedication shows how lasting change is built – through compassion, resilience and a commitment to others.
“It speaks to the decent, hopeful country we are proud to be, and on behalf of the whole nation, I want to say thank you.”
Mr Underwood is the only recipient in this year’s honours list whose address is recorded as being on the Isle of Wight.
Broadcaster Anneka Rice, who owns a home in Seaview, has also been recognised with an MBE for services to charity and broadcasting.
The King’s Birthday Honours list celebrates achievements across a wide range of sectors including business, public service, education, healthcare, sport and the arts
