Wight Tri athletes enjoyed an impressive weekend of racing across the country, delivering strong performances at events in Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Greater Manchester and Cheshire – including a world championship qualification.
Members of the Isle of Wight club competed at Blenheim Palace, Dorney Lake, Bolton and Chester, returning with personal bests, podium finishes and age-group honours.
Jade Davies impressed at the Blenheim Palace Sprint Triathlon, overcoming a challenging swim before producing strong bike and run legs. Her performance provisionally placed her 2nd in her age group and 10th female overall from a field of more than 300 competitors.
At Dorney Lake, Steve Snary recorded one of his strongest performances to date in the Standard Distance Triathlon. He achieved his fastest race swim, completed the 38km bike leg in 66 minutes and followed it with a 46-minute 10km run.
Meanwhile, Paul Edwards took on Ironman Bolton 70.3, completing the 1.9km swim in 42:51 before averaging 20.3mph during the 90km bike section. He then completed the half marathon in 1:44:12 at one of the UK’s toughest middle-distance events.
The standout result came from Jan Fletcher at the Chester Deva Standard Distance Triathlon.
Despite cold water, mechanical problems and hip pain, Fletcher finished in 2:37:09 to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 GB Age Group World Championships.
She also claimed 2nd place in her age group, finished as 2nd overall female in the PSUK Championships and secured 1st place in both her PSUK age group and for Hantspol Tri.
The performances capped off a successful weekend for Wight Tri, with athletes showcasing the club’s strength across a range of distances and competitions.
