Local music establishment, Strings Bar & Venue, has unveiled a new partnership with BBC Introducing Solent to bring upcoming artists from across the South to perform at the grassroots venue.
The monthly events, called ‘Sounds of The South’, will be promoted as an opportunity to see some of the most talked about artists and musicians from the south coast live on stage in Newport.
Since its launch in 2007, BBC Music Introducing has been dedicated to discovering and supporting new music. Artists upload their tracks to the BBC Uploader, which are then sent to local radio shows where presenters and producers choose songs to air.
Strings is one of the first grassroots venues in the UK to partner with its local BBC Introducing show, working closely with presenter Steph Nieuwenhuys to curate each month’s line-up.
A spokesperson for Strings Bar & Venue has said:
“We are so excited to be able to work with BBC Introducing. There are so many amazing upcoming artists in the South and who better than Steph to help curate the events. Our aim is to ensure equality and diversity is represented across these gigs, along with an Isle of Wight act that has also had radio play on Steph’s show.”
“This is an opportunity for local musicians and artists to grow their networks as well as support other emerging music. We hope we can encourage music lovers to discover their new favourite acts – you never know what heights they will reach.”
The first ‘Sounds of The South’ show will take place on Thursday (3rd July) and includes local singer-songwriter Ruby, Portsmouth indie rockers Oxygen and garage pop 4-piece Wave Chase.
Advance tickets are available at www.stringsbarandvenue.com, with doors opening at 19:30. The event is for those aged 16 and over, with attendees advised to bring ID.
