Britten-Norman Aircraft Limited, which is part of the wider B-N Group, is looking to appoint an administrator – with staff now eagerly awaiting news on the future of the company. It has been confirmed that earlier this month an intention to appoint notice was filed at the King’s Bench Division of the High Court in London, as the company looks to protect the position of the business. The firm – which operates out of Bembridge Airport and at Solent Airport on the mainland – is responsible for the design and manufacturing side of the business in respect of airframes and spares. Island Echo approached Britten-Norman for a statement earlier this week, with new information expected to land on Wednesday. However, this development was pushed back to today (Friday) and now appears to have been delayed once again. It is known that a meeting was held with employees on Thursday afternoon, during which it is said that staff were informed that debts had been ‘deferred for another 10 days’, and that ‘investors are expected to come in next week’. Island Echo is told that staff are ‘stressed’ about the situation, as they don’t know what the future holds. The business is not expected to collapse, however.
Lara Harrison, Business Development Director for Britten-Norman, has this week said:
“In support of the company’s future plans, especially with regard to the repatriation of aircraft manufacturing to the UK as announced last September, the board has appointed advisors to assist in exploring options to secure the necessary additional investment. “While the board continues to engage in constructive discussions with the company’s key stakeholders, it has taken a decision to file court documents that will protect the position of the business. “This will allow the board to focus on achieving the correct structure for any proposed new investment. Subject to a satisfactory conclusion of the process, the board is looking forward to following up with a further announcement in the coming week.”
Last September Island Echo reported that Britten-Norman was bringing back the production of its famous Islander aircraft to Bembridge, more than 50 years after production moved to Romania. Companies House shows that Britten-Norman Aircraft Limited’s accounts are overdue. They were due on 30th December 2023.

Hmmm,
Coming back to Bembridge from Romania, then the go bust.
Brexit again?
The gift that keeps on giving. And there is talk of Bozo coming back! Rejoice!
Widget, perhaps there wasn’t anyone left in Romania to do the work there, as they had all come to the UK to gain a free house, free council tax, free health care, free education, subsidised food and energy costs, free school uniforms, dental care, and many still abuse our kindness which they perceive, correctly imo, as weakness.
Imagine the difference, living there, or being paid ever more, and the certainty of home, and a larger one just for breeding more children. And being given ever benefit that those who have had ancestors pay in for it all. If as many are, into crime, the worst will happen is cushy jail compared to theirs.
SEE why they come, for their gain, not ours
Certainly looks that way Widget, despite the thumbs down non believers.
We need to keep the elderly drivers off the roads to keep everyone safe
This post is another from one of our resident trolls who have taken my username, i suspect by the post it is the cretin called kev/ king kev.
Reg
I agree with reg too many older drivers putting lives at risk
Why, I am 70 and have a full HGV medical every year @ £130 a time. This will be my 50th year without an accident (tempting fate)
Slow reactions is a major concern you old fart
And for those that don’t speak corporation waffle, basically they are looking for a loan and job losses to keep the company profitable!
Would help if the airfield could be open again under the control of BN
Sad to read, I really hope this gets a positive outcome as quickly as possible for jobs etc, but I think they may want to look hard at there own working practices, to make them more competitive in the market place, that said I wish them all every success going forward
Britten Norman have always had a problem because they mostly employed Lazy Self important work shy gits.
How many times has this occurred during its history, more than once as I recall.
Another example of a once-thriving local employer being slowly taxed out of business.
Count how many times this company has gone ‘bust’…it is just gross financial mismanagement nothing more.
