St Mary’s Vaccination Centre on the Isle of Wight is preparing to open its doors from Wednesday 1st October as the seasonal vaccination programme for flu and COVID-19 gets underway.
The centre will offer:
- Flu vaccinations for adults over 65 years and their carers or close contacts
- COVID-19 vaccinations for adults over 75 years
- Both vaccinations for people aged over 18 years with severe immunosuppression
- Dedicated clinics for babies and children aged 6 months to 18 years with severe immunosuppression
Eligible residents are encouraged not to wait for an invitation. Appointments can be booked now via the National Booking System, by calling 119, or through the NHS App.
Walk-in appointments will be available at St Mary’s Vaccination Centre, but booked appointments will be prioritised in order to manage waiting times.
Opening hours at the centre will be:
- Monday to Thursday, 08:00-17:30 from 1st October to 16th October
- Monday and Wednesday, 08:00-12:30 from 20th October to 30th October
Sue Lightfoot, Hospital Vaccination Centre Clinical Lead, has said:
“Flu and COVID-19 can be more serious for older people and those with certain underlying health conditions, and we know that protection from vaccines can decline over time. That is why booster doses are offered, to help maintain strong protection against becoming seriously ill or needing hospital care if you catch COVID or flu.
“If you are unable to attend the Hospital Vaccination Centre, you can visit one of our Health & Wellbeing Clinics. At these clinics, you can access a range of health and wellbeing support, including blood pressure and BMI checks, dietary advice, smoking cessation signposting, advice on early cancer screening and referrals to social and wellbeing support services. Seasonal vaccinations are also available at these clinics as part of the offer. The clinics will be running at community venues across the Isle of Wight, making it easier than ever to access protection close to home.”
Anyone unsure about eligibility or needing help with bookings can contact the NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight COVID Vaccination Helpline on 0300 561 0018.
