Tourists and Islanders alike will find it easier than ever to enjoy the Island’s array of attractions this summer – thanks to the launch of 2 Southern Vectis seasonal services.
The bus operator will run its popular Summer Links and Island Coaster routes from Saturday 1st April, and is expecting a busy season after a successful Summer 2022.
Richard Tyldsley, General Manager at Southern Vectis, says:
“We’re excited to be welcoming people back on board the Summer Links service – which runs from Newport to Yarmouth – taking passengers right across the centre of the Island’s beautiful rural landscape. It stops near to a number of popular attractions, including Tapnell Farm, Chessell Pottery and Calbourne Water Mill.
“Our Summer Links service was incredibly well-received last year – with 7541 journeys recorded. In theory, that removed around 450 cars off the island’s roads – helping to ease congestion and improve air quality here. In fact, those journeys saved nearly 18 million CO2 – which is incredible.
“We are also delighted to be welcoming back our Island Coaster service from 1st April.
“The Island Coaster is perfect for those who wish to visit The Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, Sandown Beach, Shanklin Esplanade, Blackgang Chine, Isle of Wight Pearl, Military Road, Freshwater Bay and so much more”.

18 million what of CO2???? Molecules? Surely not tons? Kilos? Spoonfuls?
Even better if £2 fare was applicable on these routes.
The Summer Links services is the only route to accept OAP bus passes and the £2 fare.
Note to Island Echo- the photo at the top is 9 years out of date.
What’s Green about Southern Vectis apart from the colour of their buses.
I am fed up seeing large double decker buses polluting the Island with
hardly any passengers on board.
Single decker buses are what’s needed on the Island and in some rural areas
mini buses.
Doubke decker buses are only required at Festival times and possibly school
Holidays.
Perhaps see the buses in Newport at rush hour then if you think many don’t use them!
Chris
I am staying Islandwide.
Double decker buses are driving around the island in many locations
practically empty at certain times of the day and in some locations
Double Decker Buses are not needed.
Obviously Newport is an exception due to Hospital, Prison and colleges etc
But look at Nettlestone and Brighstone for example.

Guess where the vast majority of buses start and end?? (Hint – Newport).
What’s the point of the bus company having extras buses so that they don’t run double deckers on quieter parts of the island.
Those quiet parts of the island also have routes that go to busy parts of the island.
Pointless having 2 fleets of buses
I’m not sure what difference the height of the vehicle makes?
I’m just waiting for the bank to approve my remortgage, then I might be able to afford to buy a ticket.
What £2? You need to mortgage your house for £2?
