A car has ended up off the road and in a hedge following a single-vehicle collision on Main Road in Havenstreet this morning (Thursday) – just metres from the scene of a similar crash earlier this week.
Emergency service crews were first called to the scene – near the Firestone Copse Road junction – at around 10:45, following reports of a single vehicle collision.
At the scene, a Skoda Yeti, travelling towards Ryde, has left the road and come to rest in a hedge.
Such was the initial call, an Operational Commander and Critical Care Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were dispatched, however the injuries of those involved are believed to be minor.
A single pumping appliance from Ryde is also present.
Earlier this week (Tuesday), another vehicle left the road in practically the exact same location. It remains unclear just how either collision occurred.
The road remains open under Police direction.
Recovery of the vehicle by Bartletts is due to take place imminently.

Another typical day on Island Roads
Another single vehicle collision, emergency services
are inundated with such incidents every week.
The Isle of Wight was used as a pilot for the NHS Track and Trace.
What a great idea of they used the island as a pilot for
driverless vehicles.
Scrap all vehicles on the island, they could be
compulsory purchased, many vehicles are not owned by
motorists, many are PCP etc.
Then the island could be driverless vehicles only.
No more accidents, much safer, no speeding, no
dodgy parking etc etc
The island would be nearly as good as SARK
With your obvious dislike of cars and drivers would you not be better moving to Sark??
It’s a bit too quiet.
Jersey is an idea. They have an islandwide
speed limit of 40mph
“Jersey is an idea. They have an islandwide speed limit of 40mph”
yeah, but I bet you’d keep on about how it should be 25 !!!
Took me a while, Sark is car free.
The Isle of Wight was used as a pilot for the NHS Track and Trace….
which was a total failure !!!
Driverless vehicles that have been trialed, have a habit of hitting pedestrians & cyclists…
Another fantastic, totally useless, idea from EiE
Driverless vehicles much safer than vehicles
being driven by numpties
Only if they are driverless because they’re parked…
Confiscation of all private cars, that’s a nice little totalitarian state you’re proposing. Where do you think the money is to be found, o wise one, if not the mug taxpayer? We would lose our cars and pay for the privilege. I don’t suppose you are advising the government about the Chagos Islands by any chance?
People can use SAFE driverless cars instead.
TWAT
That’s one way to describe yourself
I can still remember the days when you could double the
price of a Skoda, just by filling it up with fuel.
Or why does Skodas have heated rear windscreens
To keep your hands warm while you’re pushing it!
Lol
More bad driving on the Iow
It’s getting to the stage ALL island motorists should take a
new driving test, people have got rusty.
twat
We know you are, you don’t have to keep
telling us
Numpty
How? more utter shit driving standards.
Will always happen if there is no traffic law or
speed cameras
No its just shit driving.
I went past just afterwards. The roads are damp and muddy. They are also not fit for the volume of traffic now using them. As with the Cowes ‘by pass’, these roads will all need major works when things get back to normal..whatever normal is now? Get half a wheel nearer the edge and off you go as the bus found near Brading. Most of the Island Roads are higher than the surrounding land. Anyone seen the stretching on Briddlesford Road or The Racecourse?
Check out the Cowes ‘by pass’ then!
What I really want to know is, how can I get a job supplying cones and temporary lights? Seems like a very easy way to make money these days.
That is why numpties should slow down.
Thank god for Bartletts especially DR
This is part of the reason 2 cars have ended up off the road at that section of Havenstreet Rd and have bought it to Island Roads attention as of 4pm.
Approx 10 days ago, road hedge cutting had been achieved in this area and the 3 black and white tall plastic bollard poles and been completely destroyed that warn you of this hazardous drop off.
The concrete plinth makes it look like the edge of the road, but it is not. Speeding it shouldn’t be, as you’ve just ascended from the town and still in 30mph zone with nasty bend arriving. Hard to pick up pace in this area.
Hopefully IR will install something noticeable and quickly, otherwise this will happen again.
Thank goodness for Bartletts
Other recovery firms are available
How does a car fall off the road?.. surely or not it was driven off the road LOL
Speed
Just another case of going too fast for the conditions. It is not a difficult bend at all. If it was wet and muddy slow down. I live on Havenstreet and since the road closures to Firestone and the diversions the speed of traffic has vastly increased. It is a 30mph with plans to make it a 20mph. A bit of enforcement would soon stop many “accidents”, over to Roads Policing IW.
As you live in Havenstreet, were you aware that the road bollards highlighting this drop off had been damaged/removed?
Traffic law is non existent on this island, hence the
need for speed cameras
