A female site manager on the Isle of Wight is celebrating after being named as one of the best in the country in a national competition to find the best building site managers around.
Michaela Martin has won a prestigious ‘Pride in the Job’ award from the National House Building Council (NHBC) for her work at Riverside, the David Wilson Homes development in Whippingham near East Cowes.
The awards recognise the best run sites in the country and are the highest industry accolade a site manager can achieve. Each of the site managers are judged on their site safety, technical skill, workmanship and customer service, plus they also faced a site spot check from the NHBC.
With more than 16,000 site managers being assessed and only around 450 winning a quality award each year, they are a much coveted sign of excellence within the industry.
Michaela, who lives in Newport, started her career with the 5-star housebuilder as an apprentice carpenter and has worked her way up to become one of the country’s leading site managers. She has said:
“Winning this is everything I have ever worked for. I originally wanted to work in interior design but a talk at college about women in construction set me on a different path.”
Michaela is one of 73 site managers at Barratt Developments which includes David Wilson Homes and Barratt Homes, to win this year, more than any other housebuilder. This is now the 13th year in a row where the developer has won more Pride in the Job awards than every other housebuilder, making it the clear industry leader in site management.
Barratt Southampton managing director Tim Hill said:
“We are thrilled for Michaela, and all of our award winners. These awards demonstrate the high standards that we demand as a company. More importantly though, the awards showcase excellence in housebuilding. Homeowners who buy a Pride in the Job winning home benefit from knowing they have bought a top quality product.”
