A free event celebrating honey and honeybee products is being held in Cowes this coming Saturday.
The Isle of Wight Honey Show, meticulously organised by and generously sponsored by the Isle of Wight Beekeepers Association, will see beekeepers showcase their efforts by refining the delightful array of products derived from these industrious creatures, which comes after investing countless hours of hard work into nurturing healthy and productive colonies of honeybees.
As well as showing off their products, participants will enter their creations to be subjected to rigorous professional judging, which adds an element of prestige to their hard work. The awards will be presented by Lord-Lieutenant Susie Sheldon. Among the entries are frames of raw honey, various types of extracted honey, beautifully crafted wax candles, solid blocks of beeswax, and a variety of consumable goods infused with honey such as cakes, fudge and mead.
The most popular Isle of Wight honey will be decided by the public. Attendees are invited to sample different honeys before casting their votes for their favourite varieties.
In addition to these engaging classes, creative competitions including photography classes that capture beekeeping in action, bee-themed limericks, and children’s artwork inspired by pollination enrich the event experience.
Aspiring apiarists and interested folk can also benefit from this gathering as experienced beekeepers will share invaluable insights about beekeeping practices, lessons and offer unique bee-related experiences across the Island.
Locally made honeybee products will be available for purchase alongside an enticing selection of homemade cakes.
The Isle of Wight Honey Show is being held at The Isle of Wight Community Club, Park Road in Cowes between 14:00-16:30 on Saturday 5th October 2024.
