People and families on the Isle of Wight facing death, dying and bereavement are to benefit from a donation by Barratt Homes.
The housebuilder has provided furniture from its development show homes, to be sold by Mountbatten in a bid to raise money.
The charity provides end of life care – including spiritual and psychological support – to people across the island, including in their own homes, in care homes, in the local hospital and on the 16-bed ward at Mountbatten Hospice.
Andrew Titmuss, Barratt Homes’ sales manager has said:
“Our team here on the Isle of Wight already works hard on fundraising for Mountbatten, but we’re always looking for new ways to help.
“We know people love the furniture in our show homes, so feel sure it will prove popular among buyers at Mountbatten’s furniture warehouse and shops.
“Our aim is not only to help build new communities, but to become part of them – and that means showing our support to local charities, schools and other organisations. Mountbatten is an incredibly worthy cause, and I hope this furniture will raise plenty of money towards the vital care the charity provides to many in need across the Isle of Wight.”
Andrew said the furniture, which came from its Bluebell Meadows development, has raised a total of £2,376.40.
“We are delighted that so much was raised and that any unsold furniture has been used by the charity to furnish its new training centre”.
Nigel Hartley, Mountbatten chief executive, added:
“We are so grateful to Barratt Homes for thinking of Mountbatten when donating this furniture. Mountbatten relies on the generosity of our wonderful supporters to help us raise funds in many ways – including the sale of high quality donated goods such us these through our main warehouse and shops.
“The sale of this furniture will go towards our work supporting Islanders and their families facing death, dying and bereavement. A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to Barratt Homes!”
The furniture was donated to Mountbatten earlier than expected, after homes at Bluebell Meadows proved so popular that the development sold out faster than anticipated. The housebuilder still has homes available at its Hawthorn Meadows development in nearby Whippingham. It’s also just launched its new St George’s Gate development in Newport.
