An Isle of Wight team from Carisbrooke Shipping has claimed 3 of the biggest honours at one of the UK’s toughest maritime charity endurance events.
Carisbrooke Shipping enjoyed a standout weekend at The Seafarers’ Charity’s annual 24 Peaks Challenge, taking home the Fastest Team, Top Fundraiser and Ship’s Log awards after conquering the demanding Lake District challenge on 4th-5th July.
The event tasks teams with climbing 24 peaks above 2,400ft, covering 33 miles and more than 13,000ft of ascent within a 24-hour time limit – a test of both endurance and teamwork.
Carisbrooke Shipping, which has supported the challenge since 2006, entered an 11-strong team this year and emerged as one of the event’s biggest success stories.
The Fastest Team Award went to Jack Dallamore, Vitalii Chaika, Michael Wester, Carl Morten Sundin and Paul Cromie, whose combined performance saw them complete the course quicker than any other team.
Robert Wester was crowned Top Fundraiser after raising the highest individual total for The Seafarers’ Charity, while Michael Wester received the Ship’s Log Award for producing the event’s most comprehensive and engaging record of the team’s preparations and challenge.
Together, the Carisbrooke Shipping team has raised £12,519 so far for The Seafarers’ Charity, which supports merchant seafarers, fishermen and their families through financial assistance and welfare services.
The team’s journey to and from the mainland was supported by Red Funnel, which provided complimentary ferry travel for the Isle of Wight members of the team.
To mark their achievements, the victorious team was invited onto the bridge of a Red Funnel ferry during the return crossing, where they posed with the vessel’s Captain for a commemorative photograph alongside their trophies.
The latest success adds to Carisbrooke Shipping’s long-standing commitment to The Seafarers’ Charity and continues a fundraising effort that has spanned 2 decades.
